of the Year
Eoin
Murray has again lifted the Dunlop Sexton Young Racing Driver
of the Year award for the second year in succession. He
is also awarded the prestigious Sexton Trophy for 2004.
Commenting
on his win the young Dublin based driver said ‘’I
did not think that lightning would strike twice and I am
delighted and honored to again accept this award and the
Sexton Trophy. I had a very good first season in the European
Alfa challenge in 2004 and I am hoping to better this in
2005. This award means so much to me and is a real boost
to my confidence in heading into the new season. I wish
to sincerely thank Motorsport Ireland, Dunlop & the
Irish Sports Council for putting this award together and
the scholarship which is a major boost to my budget. I wish
to dedicate this award to my parents Joe & Ann and my
sponsors Helmut Holfeld, Austin McHale, Dermot Carnegie,
Bill Griffin and Alfa Romeo Ireland without who’s
support and backing this achievement would not be possible.’’
The
award recognises his achievement in the European Alfa Challenge
where in addition to lap records Eoin took five podiums
out of only eleven races. He finished the Championship in
4th place overall, missing out on third spot by a mere 5
points.
The European Alfa Romeo Challenge consisted of eleven rounds
over six weekends in some of Europe's top circuits the 2005
season will consist of 15 rounds over 8 weekends with the
inclusion of Turkey and Silverstone on the calendar.
The
European Alfa Challenge is run as part of the support Race
package for the World Touring Cars & is seen as a feeder
class for drivers to this series. Eoin plans to stage a
major assault on the European Alfa Challenge in 2005.
