Spa-Francorchamps
Lady
luck did not smile on the Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young
Driver of the Year Eoin Murray racing for team PRS Group
as part of the support package for the now legendary Spa
24 Hour race.
Despite getting to grips with the track early on Eoin only
managed to qualify in eight place for Saturday morning’s
curtain raiser. A suspect new engine thought to be the reason.
From
the start he was determined to wring the best from the car
and got himself up to sixth by the fifth lap, however a
coming together between Italian driver Maurizio Campani
& Spanish driver Luis Villamil saw Campani spear across
the track and connect with the rear quarter panel of Eoin’s
car and send him out of the race with a damaged rear suspension.
On
further examination, after the race, his engine was found
to have a problem.
Murray,
who races with backing from, Alfa Romeo Ireland, Holfeld
F1 Components, &
GaryAron Homes was philosophical afterwards, ‘’this
was just a racing incident, I saw Villamil & Campani
tangle and I was moving into fourth position when Campani
careered into the back of me. The team are now working to
replace the engine and I am hopeful of a better car for
Imola for the final two round of the season.’’
The
Spa 24 Hour weekend is one of the biggest on the LG Super
Racing Weekend
Calendar with crowds in excess of 120,000 people over the
weekend.
