// Eoin
Murray 'Young Racing Driver of the Year'
Eoin
Murray was named ‘Young Racing Driver of the Year’
at the Alfa Romeo Awards for Excellence in Irish Motorsport
held in the Conrad Hotel Dublin on Monday 1st December 2003.
In addition to the accolade which comes with a substantial
prize fund Eoin is particularly pleased to accept the prestigious
Dunlop Sexton Trophy.
In
accepting his award Eoin paid tribute to the organisers
and thanked the sponsors of the event. He intends to use
his prize fund to further his career in Saloon Car Racing.
‘’I am particularly pleased to have won this
award and trophy as a Saloon racer and I hope that this
will encourage other drivers to consider Saloon Car racing
as a viable career option in the future. I hope to be a
worthy recipient of the prestigious award as ‘Young
Racing Driver of the Year’ and be an ambassador for
Irish Motorsport’’.
The hype surrounding Formula 1 and the glamour and excitement
provided by Jordan over the past number of years has prompted
a number of young Irish hopefuls to pursue the Single seater
route. However Eoin Murray is resolute in his choice to
pursue a career in Saloon cars and has set down a clear
marker of his ability.
The
young Irish driver, in his second season in the Renault
Clio UK Cup was certainly the man to watch after very successful
pre-season testing when he out- performed the opposition.
Just 20 years old Eoin sees his participation in the Elf
Clio’s as an integral part of his long-term plan to
become a Professional Saloon Car Racer.
Eoin
Murray who is sponsored by former British Rallycross Champion
Helmut Holfeld through his company Holfeld F1 Components
also receives support from Bill Griffin Motors, Carnegie
Sand & Gravel and a number of other Irish companies
he has achieved 4 Race wins, 4 Second Places and 2 Third
Places finishing the season in Third place in the Championship.
This is a fantastic achievement in the highly competitive
single make series.
Over the season Eoin’s, talent, grit & determination
has won him many admirers and fans and he is currently examining
the various options open to him. Lack of final regulations
across a number of the possible options has meant that he
has still not finalised plans for next year but either way
you can be sure you have not heard the last from the young
Firhouse man.
