After fifteen rounds, over five gruelling weekends the Seat Supercopa enters its final round at circuit Catalunya in Barcelona this weekend. The championship has been closely contested all the way through and there are three drivers remaining with a fighting chance to take top honours together with a paycheque of €30k and a drive in the WTCC. The top standings going in to the final round taking into account dropped scores are Spanish drivers Marc Carol on 129 points, Oscar Nogues on 112 Points and Irish driver Eoin Murray on 107 points.
With a total of forty-three points on offer for the weekend Irishman Eoin Murray is still confident of his prospects however he readily accepts that he will need a few breaks and a lot of luck if he is to succeed. His form to date would suggest that the former European Alfa Romeo Champion is well capable of causing an upset. Murray has already had 3 wins, 2 seconds, 2 thirds and set 4 fastest laps in the championship so far and has proven himself to be a very tough competitor.
Commenting on his Championship so far the Firhouse man said “Oasis Motorsport are a very young and ambitious team, this is only their second season racing. They gave me the chance at the beginning of the year and I am happy I have rewarded them with this championship mount and some great results along the way.’’
Looking forward to the weekend ahead Murray commented “As I said previously mathematically I can still win the Championship however it is a big mountain to climb and we will need a definite ‘rub of the green’ to land top honours! Championship leader Marc Carol will be the one under pressure and our goal is to score as many points as possible, we will not be giving up until the chequered flag drops in the final race.”
A large contingent of supporters fly out to Barcelona this weekend to support Eoin in his quest to win a second championship and all are looking forward to seeing him attain his goal of a drive in the WTCC.
