14th July 2008 // Murray fights for points in Estoril

Eoin Murray fought through a difficult weekend at Estoril to finish fifth in race two and add another 4 points to his championship standing. This highly competitive championship has to date seen six different winners from 6 races with each driver finishing at least one race outside the points scoring positions.

Eoin qualified in 10th position for race one after some handling problems with his Reynolds backed Seat but on the opening lap of race 1 he was pushed off the track and had to rejoin at the back of the field. A strong drive with a damaged car Eoin managed to recover to 12th position at the finish line from a lowly 22nd after the first lap incident. There were no points collected but as the result of race 1 decides the grid for race 2 and there was still a good opportunity from the outside of the sixth row of the grid.

With the top eight drivers reversed from race 1 results, race two was expected to be close fight with many drivers having the possibility of winning. Eoin made a good start and moved up to 10th after lap 1. The two race leaders broke away leaving 8 cars battling for the last step on the podium. With the positions changing from lap to lap Eoin managed to stay out of trouble and pick up fifth position and four hard earned points.

Eoin commented after the weekend: “We had some handling & brake problems over the weekend which certainly cost us time in both races. To be pushed off in Race 1 was very disappointing & race 2 was a very aggressive race. I could have been taken out many times so all things considered I am happy to score points. I hope we can iron out these problems before Brands as I need two strong points finishes to get me back in contention for the championship.”

Eoin’s next race is 26th - 27th of July at Brands Hatch in England.
