19th May 2008 // Murray Rains in Valencia

Eoin Murray battled the elements in a monsoon downpour in Valencia to bring his Reynolds Logistics Seat Leon home in Eight place for the opening round of the 2008 Seat Eurocup series on Saturday 17th May and in so doing put himself on pole position for round two on the Sunday.

The Italian based team, PRS Group, running this Seat Leon for the first time and with very limited testing had no setup data for the technical Valencia track. As a result 18th was the best position Eoin could manage in qualifying however a massive effort by Eoin and the team over the weekend saw them claim victory in their first every race weekend with these cars.

In race one Eoin made a good start and after two laps he had passed 5 cars and was in 13th position when a downpour of rain hit the Spanish track. The team called Eoin in immediately and this early pit stop paid off as Eoin finished the race in 8th position giving him pole position for race 2.

In race 2 the former European Alfa Romeo champion was not about to waste this opportunity. He used his experience during the race by taking the car from Lights to Flag victory. This leaves Eoin in a strong 2nd position in the overall Seat Leon Eurocup.

Speaking after the race Eoin said. “Friday was a steep learning curve for all the team as we never expected to be 3 seconds a lap off the pace. However we worked really very hard during the weekend and to come away with a win and second in the championship is a fantastic result. It is a short championship and there are many of drivers capable of winning races so the key is to consistently score points each race weekend. We have learned a lot from this weekend and I hope we can fight for good results in Pau.”

The next round is in Pau in France on the 1st & 2nd June.
