21st October 2011 // Eoin Murray Finishes in Third Position at the Italian Seat Supercopa Series

Eoin Murray, one of Ireland’s best known motoring personalities and SEAT brand ambassador, competed in the final race of the Italian Seat Supercopa series on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of October at the world famous Monza track, just north of Milan. The track, which has been used every year since the Formula 1 began, is 5.7km long and known to be one of the fastest tracks in the world.

Competing in the SEAT Leon Supercopa, Murray got off to a fantastic start and was the fastest driver in Qualifying 1, but dropped back to fourth place in Qualifying 2. Having started 4th for race 1 Murray moved into 3rd place after the first corner, things were going well until technical difficulties forced Murray to pull out of the race on lap 4.
Throughout the weekend, Murray and his team noticed that there was a problem with the car’s straight line speed, which was causing him to lose about 4-5Kph on the straights compared to his rivals. To combat this, the team fitted a new turbo and sensors for Race 2, which he started in 10th position. Aided by these adjustments, Murray put in a fantastic performance to finish third with the fastest lap of all competitors and catching the race leader in the closing stages of the race.

Speaking after the series, Eoin said “I was happy to complete the series with a podium finish, I came here feeling very confident and despite some difficulties I’m still really happy with the performance. I would like to thank SEAT for their help and continuous support.”
Eoin Murray also drives a SEAT Leon CUPRA R when he is off the track. The SEAT Leon Cupra R takes an already progressively designed car, the SEAT Leon and merges it with the truly unique racing spirit that SEAT is known for so is the perfect car for Eoin to drive when he is not racing. Built by the same hands that prepare the SEAT Leon race cars for world league competitions like the WTCC, the SEAT Leon CUPRA is fitted with a 2.0 TSI 265 bhp engine, which fulfils the EU5 emission standard, and is ready to soar at a heart-stopping 247 km/h.
