22nd June 2010 // Strong Haul of Points from Zolder Encounter

Eoin Murray driving for Oasis Motorsport with the support of Portuguese companies, Louropel & Saraiva came away from this weekend’s Seat Eurocup series at Zolder lying 4th in the Championship.

After a promising practice session on Friday ending in 5th position Eoin struggled with an ill balanced car and could only manage to qualify in twelfth position for race one. A downpour of rain before the opening race left everyone with a difficult tyre choice. A last minute decision saw Eoin change for wet tyres on the grid before the race started. All but three drivers started on wet tyres and as the race got underway it proved to be the wrong choice as the track dried out rapidly. Despite the tyre choice a strong performance in the race saw him finish seventh, the 4th car to reach the chequered flag on wet tyres. With the top eight reversed to form the grid for race two Eoin was on the front row.

The second race of the weekend on Sunday morning gave Murray a real opportunity starting from the front row of the grid and he didn’t disappoint dropping to third place shortly after the start the Irishman battled through and had an opportunity later in the race to challenge for the lead however the very tricky conditions convinced him to consolidate his second place and ensure a good haul of championship points for the weekend.

Commenting after the race Eoin said “This weekend was a massive improvement from Monza but we still have to find a little more pace especially for qualifying. I really liked the Zolder Circuit however the track conditions were very tricky indeed particularly during the second race. It was raining in some parts of the circuit and it was dry in others so it was very difficult to judge the grip level as it was constantly changing from lap to lap. In the circumstances, I am delighted to have come away with much needed championship points, which moves me to 4th position in the standings just 7 points of the leader. Next we go to Brands Hatch where I scored a win the last time I was there in the 2008 Seat Eurocup so I’m hoping I can repeat that result!”

The next Seat Eurocup race will be 17th-18th of July at Brands Hatch GP circuit.
